Decalcification

A white spot on the teeth that may develop into a cavity in the future. They are caused by poor brushing, and the consumption of sugary and acidic drinks which break down the tooth enamel. Decalcification is common in orthodontics because plaque accumulates around brackets and is difficult to remove.

Diagnostic Records

Materials and information that an orthodontist needs to diagnose a malocclusion and plan a patient’s treatment. The diagnostic record includes a comprehensive patient health history, a visual examination of the teeth and supporting structures, an electronic scan or plaster model of the teeth, extraoral and intraoral photographs, and x-rays.
